It’s Fall Y’all

Image
After General Conference the first weekend of October and being on a spiritual high, the second week of October started out on a much more somber note. Monday, October 6th we attended the viewing for President Russell M Nelson.  They estimated 18,560 people visited the Conference Center in order to pay respects to this great man. At the viewing      Then on Tuesday, October 7th they held the funeral for President Nelson at the Conference Center which we were also able to attend. It was a touching event attended by around 20,000 people -- close to 600 were members of the Nelson family.  When he passed at 101 years of age, he was the world's oldest leader of a global faith organization. And he stayed very active and involved until just recently!  What an example! After the funeral One humorous bit of information, since we live just across the street from the Conference Center, we can see vehicles come and go into the garage of the building.  So as the he...

What an uplifting weekend

We had a wonderful weekend!  It was General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.   We were able to spend Saturday with Kyle, Gaby & Celeste watching the morning and afternoon sessions with them --which was a delight.  We don't have a television (believe it or not!!) so it was great to watch Conference (and let's be honest, some football as well) on a big TV.  Our laptop and phones don't quite do some things justice.       I think fall is finally here!! It rained 2.5 inches Saturday!                      After the afternoon session we then made our way back to our apartment.  The plus to our apartment location is that it is literally across the street from the Conference Center.  The minus is that it is literally across the street from the Conference Center.  There were approximately 20,000 people at each session so just the sheer n...

Difficult Sabbath

Us with the KLS Buidling in the background (we serve on the 5th floor) September 28th was a difficult day emotionally.  When we woke up we learned of the passing of Russell M Nelson the President of our Church.  He was & will always be remembered as a great man, doctor & leader.  He did so much for so many areas -- a noted Cardiothoracic surgeon as well as a much beloved leader.  It has been faith promoting to see the tributes offered by so many to this great servant of the Lord. This was shared with us -- I bet this was how it was. Funny incident — we have been assigned to attend Sunday services at a Rehabilitation & Long Term Care Living Facility. When they announced at the beginning of the meeting that President Nelson had passed, one of the resident asked loudly ‘Do they know what he died from?’  Well he was 101, so old age?    Then we found out about the incident at a Chapel for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in...

As the 1st month draws to a close

Image
We are really loving our mission.  Elder Clemons is learning so much about the workings of Senior Missionary assignments and all the ‘inside scoop’ associated with that area.  I am learning that adults — especially Senior adults have way more medical needs than my NICU babies.  And they can be much grumpier at times as well, especially when they don't get their nap 😂. It is so fun to explore downtown Salt Lake City when we have time off. When we lived in South Jordan & Herriman we pretty much stayed out that way unless we had a specific reason to be in SLC Metro.  We get out and walk most afternoons and it has been fun to see the different areas right around where we live and serve.  I’ve included some pictures I’ve taken along the way.      Brigham Young Historic Park (about 4 blocks from our apartment) Church Office Building -- the gardens are beautiful In the Joseph Smith Memorial Building Chapel  The Salt Lake Temple -- still under r...

Called 2 Serve 2Gather

(If you don't have a picture similar to this were you even at the MTC?)      Well, We Did It .....   On August 25th we entered the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT where we started the next chapter of our lives and assumed our new identities— Elder & Sister Clemons. During our 5 day stay there we met many wonderful people who are like us, Senior Missionaries waiting to go throughout the world to serve the Lord. We divided into Districts (ours consisted of four couples) and they called Elder Clemons to be the District Leader. We were taught by a 2 sets of amazing return missionaries (a set of Sisters & a set of Brothers). They were each an inspirations to us.                                                      Our Brother instructors on each end. Our Sister instructors in the middle. We had a Sister in...
