Called 2 Serve 2Gather

(If you don't have a picture similar to this were you even at the MTC?)

Well, We Did It .....

On August 25th we entered the Missionary Training Center in Provo, UT where we started the next chapter of our lives and assumed our new identities— Elder & Sister Clemons. During our 5 day stay there we met many wonderful people who are like us, Senior Missionaries waiting to go throughout the world to serve the Lord. We divided into Districts (ours consisted of four couples) and they called Elder Clemons to be the District Leader. We were taught by a 2 sets of amazing return missionaries (a set of Sisters & a set of Brothers). They were each an inspirations to us.

Our Brother instructors on each end.

Our Sister instructors in the middle.

We had a Sister in our District get sick so she joined us via Zoom for a couple of days therefore, she is missing from the pictures with the set of Brother instructors.  And one of the couples left from the MTC a day earlier than the rest of us and are missing from the pictures with the set of Sister instructors.

Funny story, Thursday morning at 0545 we (several Senior Missionaries) opened an email that had been sent late (for us anyway) Wednesday night telling us that we would need to be packed and out of our rooms by 1130 so the rooms could be prepared for the incoming Senior Missionaries,  So we hurriedly did our morning stuff (shower, shave, hair, etc.) and got almost everything packed.  Elder Clemons had even gotten most of our stuff loaded into our vehicle by 0700.  We then received an email telling us o disregard the previous email, there had been some miscommunications.  We were all (except 1 couple) to stay at the MTC and leave on Friday as was the original arrangement. Those years in the Army (and/or prepping for an early pre-termer deciding to be born in the middle of the night) paid off - we can still hustle!!

We were called to serve in the Salt Lake City Headquarters Mission located in downtown SLC.  Our entire Mission is (mostly) all located within a 15 minute walk from one end to the other.  There is a building in Riverton UT that is included and some other places but for the most part its all right here!

Our apartment is across the street from the Conference Center
(you can see it on the right side of the photo).

The view from where we attended orientation. Renovation is                                            coming right along (at a snails pace it seems)

One of the BEST things about serving in this Mission is that we are super close to where Kyle & Gaby and their kiddos live and only a few hours from Lance & Amanda and their kiddos.  And Candace is pretty close as well.  Family is what life is all about.  Right?!

Emma, Lyla, MiMi, Carter, Jozy, PaPa, Celeste, Liam, Chloe & Mayli
I don't know why their parents continue to let them grow.
Thank goodness I'll be taller than Celeste for a few more years!!

We were blessed in that Lance, Amanda, Chloe, Emma & Liam drove up to Utah for the Labor Day weekend activities and we were able to spend some time with them.  These wonderful grandchildren are one of the main reasons we decided to serve a mission.  We want to set the example for them to follow when they become missionary age.

We were asked to serve in the Missionary Department.  We are located in the same building but in different areas.  Sister Clemons does Senior Missionary pre-mission medical screening.  This entails making sure that the missionaries have access to the proper medical care and medications for any issues they report having prior to and while on their missions.  Elder Clemons is assigned to the Missionary Department Senior Support Services where he answers questions via email or phone call from perspective Senior Missionaries; how to fill out the pages (and pages and pages) of the application/recommend, etc.  We are surrounded by a great group of people and really enjoy going in each morning.
